According to an anonymous source, Kien Giang provincial authorities had asked the investor of 9-storey SeaShells Hotel, Phu Quoc Tourism JSC, to tear down two floors because it exceeded its official planning regulation height.

SeaShells Hotel is part of Huong Bien tourism project. It is invested by Phu Quoc Tourism JSC and constructed by 59 One-member LLCs.

The investors were also accused of encroaching upon the coastal protection corridor. However, Kien Giang provincial authorities said the hotel construction was approved before the Law on Sea and Island Natural Resources and Environment that took effect in July 2016.

Talking to Zing News on November 15, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang People's Committee Mai Anh Nhin said the investors were removing the floors by the request of the inspectorate of the Department of Construction.
