Many supermarkets in HCM City have become overloaded with a sharp rise in the number of customers.

On July 14, hundreds of people lined up outside of local supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies to buy necessities.

In order to shop at Co.opmart Supermarket, customers had to queue four times, queuing at the parking lot, queuing in front of the supermarket, queuing for a cart and finally, at the cashier counter.

In a few hours, many items like milk and eggs were gone. The supermarket employees said the items ran out in 20 minutes.

An employee at a pharmacy in Binh Thanh District said they had seen a surge in the number of customers who want to buy medicines for headaches and fever.
