Leaders of many corporations have announced that they are receiving low or even no wage during this economic downturn.

Recently, Dang Thi Hoang Yen, chairwoman of Tan Tao Investment and Industry Corporation announced that she would work for free because the corporation's share value was low.

Even leaders of Sacombank Securities Company have not been paid during the last six months of 2012 despite their wages totalling VND1.2 billion in the first haft of that year.

According to the annual report, Sacombank Securities incurred a loss of over VND135 billion in previous year, rendering their equity negative.

Leaders of many corporations also announced that they would not receive a penny until their company became profitable.

Meanwhile other corporations still pay a high wage for the management.

In 2012, directors of Vietnam National Coffee Corporation all earned over VND1 billion in wages and another VND1.5 billion in benefits and dividends.

Viettel Group also maintained a high wage for leaders and employees. Le Dang Dung, deputy general director of Viettel said they had round 25,000 employees with average wages of VND18 million per month. The number is much higher compared to other telecom companies such as FPT or VNPT whose employees' average wage is only VND10 million.

Though Dung refused to reveal top wages for specialists, an anonymous source said some experts are paid hundreds of million of VND per month.

It was easy to understand since Viettel has expanded its business to other countries and reaped good profits last year. But some companies such as the Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), whose profits declined still pay high wages. The income of the board of directors reached VND14.3 billion, higher than 2011.

The chairman of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group or chairwoman Cao Thi Ngoc Dung of the PNJ Company also earn hundreds of millions each month.

However, none have surpassed Nguyen Duc Vinh, who when he was director of Techcombank. His annual wage reached VND20 billion.
