Parents in Yen Nguu Village surrounded Van Dien B Primary School
The incident occurred at Van Dien B Primary School in Yen Nguu Village on May 28, during the closing ceremony for the 2011-2012 school-year.
According to the parents, who are all from Yen Nguu Village, they have just heard that in the 2012-2013 school year, Van Dien B Primary School will only accept 30 children from the village for the 1st form. The rest will have to attend Tam Hiep Primary School, 1 kilometre away.
The parents came to the school and said that they wanted to meet with the school’s headmaster to ask for her explanation.
“Van Dien B School was built in our village and the local authorities, as well as the school’s leaders, promised to accept all children from the village. We cannot understand why they would not admit some students,” a parent named H said.
“We have contributed our land and work to build the school, so our children would be able to study here,” another parent named L confirmed.
More than 100 parents waited outside until the closing ceremony ended, then surrounded the headmaster, Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, to ask for explanation.
The headmaster was compelled to invite some representatives of the group back into her office, where she told them that this was just a plan proposed by the district’s Department of Education and Training.
“If parents disagree with the proposal they should lodge a petition, and I will help send it to the district’s department. But we don't make the decisions on enrollment issues,” Anh said.
Parents were not satisfied with the explanation from the headmaster, and aksed her to write a report of their meeting.
Afterwards, about 10 parents brought the report and their petition directly to Thanh Tri District’s Department of Education and Training.
