Can Tho considers USD 24-million education complex proposal

Can Tho City is considering a VND 636 billion (USD 24.2 million) proposal by FPT to build an education complex aimed at expanding high-quality education in the Mekong Delta region.

The proposed project would be built on a 6.7-hectare site in An Binh Ward and accommodate about 3,480 students from primary and secondary education to university and postgraduate levels. It is expected to create around 260 jobs.

The project would be developed in three phases over about eight years. FPT has asked the city to approve the investment policy, adjust planning where necessary and expedite legal procedures to facilitate implementation.

City officials said the proposed site is designated for educational use under existing planning, although several planning parameters, including building height, require further review.

Can Tho Chairman Truong Canh Tuyen welcomed the proposal and called on relevant agencies to work with FPT to resolve legal issues, while stressing that the selection of an investor for the site must comply with land auction regulations.

He also urged FPT to consider adding an innovation centre, research facilities, start-up incubators and technology transfer spaces to support the city's ambition of becoming an education, science and innovation hub for the Mekong Delta.
