Vietnamese student Nguyen Huu Tuan has achieved a rare feat by winning two gold medals at international Olympiads within the space of a week.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has announced the official results of Vietnam's national team at the 2026 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
All four members of the Vietnamese team won awards, with one gold medal, two silver medals and one honourable mention.

Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 12th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won a gold medal.
Dang Huy Hau, an 11th-grade student at Thang Long High School for the Gifted in Lam Dong Province, and Nguyen Bui Duc Dung, a 12th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, both won silver medals.
Nguyen Khanh Phuc, a 10th-grade student at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted in Ninh Binh Province, received an honourable mention.
Tuan stood out among the Vietnamese competitors by winning gold medals at two world Olympiads within just one week.
After winning gold at the 2026 International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in Kazakhstan, he went on to win another gold medal at the 2026 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Uzbekistan.
Tuan now has four international gold medals and two silver medals. His gold medals include IOAI titles in 2025 and 2026, an Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) gold in 2026 and an IOI gold in 2026. He also won silver medals at the IOI in 2024 and APIO in 2024.
The 38th IOI is being held in person from August 9 to August 16 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The 2026 competition has officially brought together 375 contestants from 92 countries and territories. Russia, Belarus, Israel and Turkmenistan are competing under the Olympic flag.
A total of 188 contestants won medals, 32 gold, 62 silver and 94 bronze, accounting for half of all participants. Another 42 contestants received honourable mentions.
With all four Vietnamese contestants winning awards, Vietnam's national IOI team ranked among the top eight countries and territories in the medal table, behind China, South Korea, the United States, Malaysia, Japan, Poland and Turkey.
