The office reported that among the total injuries, 5,587 were serious.

Compared to 2016, traffic accidents fell 7% and deaths declined 4.7%; serious injuries dropped 9.6% and light injuries down 12.6%.
The figures show an improvement in Vietnam’s efforts to reduce traffic accidents as well as the number of deaths and injuries.
Among the total number of traffic accidents in the year, 9,488 cases occurred on roads with 8,089 deaths. It was followed by railway accidents with 164 cases, leaving 133 dead and waterway accidents with 118 cases, causing 57 deaths.
The country however still experiences 55 traffic accidents with 23 deaths per day on average in 2017.
