According to the ministry's report, 14,894 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 35 localities such as HCM City (8,499 cases), Binh Duong (3.676), Dong Nai (986), Long An (564), Tay Ninh (267), Tien Giang (154), Kien Giang (104), Dong Thap (82), and Danang (81). 28 other patients were imported cases from other countries.
The infection number showed an increase of 1,708 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 9,275 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 497,391 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (241,084 cases), Binh Duong (126,408), Dong Nai (26,314), Long An (23,785), and Tien Giang (10,290). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 501,649. The country now stands 53rd among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 3, an additional 11,344 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 270,668.
On Friday evening, a further 308 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 12,446. Some localities reported high number of deaths include HCM City (250), Binh Duong (44), Dong Thap (5), Hanoi (2), Dak Lak (2), Tien Giang (2), Ben Tre (1), Binh Thuan (1), and Khanh Hoa (1).
The country has so far conducted over 20.83 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.95 million people having received two doses.
