Da Nang officially marked the first in a series of activities highlighting Vietnam’s 2010 ASEAN Chairmanship in January 13

January 13 in Da Nang marked the first in a series of activities highlighting Vietnam’s 2010 ASEAN Chairmanship with a theme of moving, “Towards ASEAN Community: From Vision to Action."

Other meetings set for January 13 and 14 include the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APCS), the ASEAN Coordination Council (ACC), and the ASEAN ministerial meeting (AMM), all of which will be presided over by Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

These meetings will focus on reviewing ASEAN cooperation results during the past and addressing methods for accelerating ASEAN cooperation in the future. Key issues and priorities for strengthening the ASEAN community and partnerships with other countries in 2010 will be the main concern.

This morning, January 13, the welcoming ceremony to ASEAN foreign Ministers was at Muc Da Han (East North of Thailand) and a road itinerary was also implemented from Thailand via Laos to Vietnam at the Lao Bao border gate, Quang Tri province.

This road itinerary is one of the most significant events to promote cooperative potentials of the East-West economic corridor, furthering connection ideas with high-ranking ASEAN leaders.

Following the welcoming ceremony at the Lao Bao border gate, these high-ranking delegations will visit Hue city before coming to Da Nang to begin the first critical meetings of Vietnam’s ASEAN 2010 chairmanship at Furama resort.

Being selected as the host of the first ASEAN 2010 ministerial meetings in early January, Da Nang shaped a steering committee for welcoming activities in the city led by Van Huu Chien, Vice president of People’s committee with principles of “royal treatment, thoughtfulness, safety, economy and satisfaction with ASEAN’s routines."
