Agencies concerned have estimated that it has so far been the fiercest drought in more than two decades.

All seven districts of the province have been hit hard, with four of them suffering extreme hardships.

More than 50,000 people have suffered hunger and thirst.

Hundreds of hectares of crops have been damaged. More than 2,000 hectares have been marked as non-arable land.

Dozens of thousands of livestock animals have been affected by a lack of drinking water and nearly 500 of them have died.

The central government has provided VND172 billion ($7.84 million) and 2,000 tonnes of rice in emergency aid for the province.
