According to Nguyen Cao Son, vice chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee, Rong Market in Hoa Lu City will be dismantled for key local projects and to improve the landscape along the Van River.
In the near term, part of the market will be cleared to serve the construction of the Cha La Bridge and its access road.
Once all vendors are relocated, the remaining part of the market will be demolished for the Van River embankment and landscape project. A portion of the site will be designated for a mixed-use complex combining commercial, service, and office functions.

Rong Market is among Ninh Binh's largest and longest-standing markets. It is closely tied to the daily lives of locals and has long been a place where visitors can shop, explore local traditions, and experience the cultural essence of the ancient capital, Hoa Lu.
Son added that after the market is removed, a commercial centre and riverside landscape along the Van River will be developed to elevate Hoa Lu's image as a heritage city. The area is expected to become a vibrant hub for both local trade and tourism.
According to the Hoa Lu City People's Committee, the main area of Rong Market spans over 5,000 square metres and accommodates over 200 traders. The first 100 square metres of the market are being dismantled.
Local authorities have encouraged the traders to accept compensation and move to other markets for the project's implementation. Most of them have agreed to the relocation, as the market has considerably deteriorated over time.
Nguyen Thi Lien, a vendor with more than 20 years of experience at Rong Market, felt a deep sense of regret upon hearing about the demolition. Still, understanding that it aligns with the city and province's development plans, she and others are ready for relocation.
