According to Nguyen Hong Phuong, deputy director of the department, the nets which are 8-10 metres high will be used at areas langurs often appear, instead of tracker dogs.
The nets will be installed from next week.
Many groups of langurs have been recently reported in mountainous areas in Huong Lap. Each weighs between 6 and 15 kilos. One of them usually comes to nearby roads to chase and attack passers-by.
To date, around 10 local people have been attacked by the animals.
On September 23, Quang Tri’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a meeting to discuss measures on the problem.
Using two tracker dogs to frighten langurs was turned down by local authorities as the dogs are likely to kill langurs. Meanwhile, if being muzzled, it would be not effective for dogs to be on duty.
The authorities have also arranged staff to control the langurs.
