Many people are returning to Vietnam from virus-hit areas in foreign countries

There are 999 Vietnamese people set to return from the EU and the rest are visitors from outside the Schengen countries and the UK. 325 of the Vietnamese returned from the UK, France and Germany. German chancellor Angela Merkel announced that all external borders for countries within the group would close for 30 days for nonessential travel.

Up to 5,711 people will come to Vietnam on 78 flights today. Noi Bai Airport is expected to receive 22 flights with 1,623 passengers, Danang Airport will receive 7 flights with 342 passengers and Cam Ranh Airport will receive 2 flights with 220 passengers.

There will be two flights to Lien Khuong Airport with 159 passengers, 43 flights to Tan Son Nhat Airport with 3,159 passengers and only one flight to Can Tho and Phu Quoc airports each with 129 and 79 passengers respectively.

On March 17, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered to quarantine all passengers from the US, EU and ASEAN. Starting from March 18, Vietnam has suspended the issuance of new visas for all foreign nationals except people travelling for diplomatic or official purposes. People with visa exemptions or those travelling for special purposes will have to be certified as negative for the virus. The certificate must be issued by the authorities of the host country and approved by Vietnam.

Passengers will be checked and must follow all regulations.

To Tu Ha, deputy director of Noi Bai International Airport, said, "Procedures have become more complicated. Besides the usual procedures, passengers must fill in medical forms, have their samples taken and be quarantined."

The passengers must understand the procedures and regulations beforehand before travelling to fully co-operate with the authorities and ensure the safety of themselves and their families. Information will be announced on the airport screens for passengers.
