Nearly 300 workers at Vinh Thong Trading & Service Co., Ltd., go on a strike to demand their unpaid wages on February 20.

As of the morning of February 20, nearly 300 workers stopped work and gathered at the headquarters of the leather footwear manufacturer in Tan Phu District, demanding overdue salary payments.

According to the workers, the company still owes them 65 percent of their December 2024 wages and full January 2025 salaries.

Before the 2025 Tet Lunar New Year Festival, workers had already staged a walkout, urging the company to pay their wages so they could cover living expenses, rent, and travel home for the holiday. In response, the company only provided a partial advance of 35 percent of December’s wages and promised to settle the remaining salaries after workers returned from the holiday. However, the workers have not received full payment, prompting them to continue their strike.

During the Tet holiday, the trade union at the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zones provided each worker with VND2 million in cash and a package of essential goods.

On the morning of February 20, authorities from Tan Phu District and representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Trade Union invited the company’s management for discussions with the workers.

However, no legal representative from the company attended the meeting. Consequently, the trade union have guided workers on the legal procedures for filing a lawsuit against the company and has expressed readiness to act on their behalf if authorised.
