According to the ministry's report, 15,916 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,100), Hai Phong (1,749), Tay Ninh (919), Vinh Long (842), and Ca Mau (821). There were 20 imported patients confirmed today. Vietnam has so far confirmed 20 Omicron-infected cases.
The new infections showed a decrease of 998 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 11,017 infections found in the community.
As of Monday evening, 1,773,170 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (504,859), Binh Duong (290,996), Dong Nai (98,132), Tay Ninh (77,921), and Hanoi (51,731).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,778,976. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 3, an additional 24,461 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,397,157.
On Monday evening, a further 190 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 33,021. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (31), An Giang (19), Dong Thap (14), Vinh Long (13), Can Tho (13), Tay Ninh (12), Binh Duong (11), Ben Tre (10), Binh Phuoc (9), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (9), Soc Trang (8 ), Tien Giang (7), Ca Mau (6), Binh Thuan (5), Bac Lieu (5), Hue (4), Long An (3), Binh Dinh (2), Tra Vinh (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Kien Giang (2), Hau Giang (2), and Phu Yen (1).
Vietnam on January 2 administered 594,568 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 153.59 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 69.28 million people having received two doses.
