Vietnam confirmed an additional 11,527 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday and 11,919 patients were discharged from hospital following their recovery the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 11,525 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 35 localities including HCM City (5,435), Binh Duong (4,179), Dong Nai (930), Long An (191), An Giang (186), Kien Giang (137), and Tien Giang (89). There were two imported patients confirmed today.
The new infection number showed a decrease of 165 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 5,870 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 714,497 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (353,655), Binh Duong (187,493), Dong Nai (42,362), Long An (31,041), and Tien Giang (13,464). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 718,963. The country now stands 46th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 22, an additional 11,919 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 487,262.
On Wednesday evening, a further 236 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 17,545. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (181), Binh Duong (37), Tien Giang (3), Binh Thuan (3), Long An (3), Can Tho (2), Dong Nai (2), Dak Nong (1), An Giang (1), Danang (1), Nghe An (1), and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (1).
The country has so far conducted over 35.67 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 6.93 million people having received two doses.
