Around 360 Vietnamese citizens have been brought home safely from the US on a national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines’ flight on December 6-7.
The flight conducted under the co-operation by Vietnamese and US agencies, included children aged below 18, the elderly, the sick, stranded tourists, students who have completed their study but lack accommodation due to dormitory closure and those living in difficult circumstances.
Vietnamese representative offices in the US assisted the passengers in going to airports in San Francisco and Los Angeles and also helped them with check-in procedures.
After arriving at Danang International Airport, all passengers and crew members were required to undergo medical checkups and then taken to quarantine sites.
Vietnam Airlines closely conformed to Covid-19 prevention regulations during the flight to ensure the safety.
Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam announced that nearly 200 repatriation flights will be held to bring Vietnamese citizens home from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan from December 1, 2020 to January 15, 2021.
However, a new community case was detected in HCM City. On December 1, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc halted all international flights to Vietnam to better control the situation. Only repatriation flights for children, and old, sick and needy people are allowed.
