Lieutenant-colonel Hoang Van Thang, from the city’s anti-environmental criminal police board, violated Article 275 of the Criminal Code on aiding the offenders to flight abroad.

On January 23, his military rank was officially revoked.

Earlier, the Ministry of Public Security’s inspection force arrested and prosecuted Vu Tien Son, former Deputy Head of Haiphong City’s police division in charge of social crimes (PC45), along with Vu Van Sau and Pham Dinh Nghien, police officials of An Tho Commune, for the same violation.

Dung, who was also director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, was arrested on September 4, under an international warrant for alleged economic offenses committed during his tenure as chairman of the board of the state-owned enterprise, Vinalines.

Dung was apprehended in another Southeast Asian country and then extradited to Vietnam by Interpol.

According to Article 75 of Vietnam's Civil Code, the highest punishment for those who provide aid to others trying to evade criminal offenses, he could face 20 years in prison.
