Over past two years of Soc Trang and the city of Can Tho’s official co-operation with Hiroshima on the environment, two sides have seen great results in terms of domestic wastewater treatment, water purification equipment, chemicals for shrimp ponds treatment, recycling plastic and waste, the fermentation of rice husks and chemicals for the quick measurement of aquatic environment parameters.

The seminar is expected to contribute to expanding the co-operation between Hiroshima with provinces and cities in the Mekong River Delta.

At the seminar, Japanese enterprises introduced their latest and most advanced environmental products and technologies, including recycled organic fertilisers, software for the management of water supply pipelines and technologies for the treatment and recovery of energy.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region Le Hung Dung expressed his hope that products and experience from Japanese enterprises, particularly those in Hiroshima, would help the Mekong River Delta Region cope with climate change in order to uphold its potential for economic development.

Sato Yoshio, Director of Environmental Industry at Hiroshima’s Department of Commerce, Industry and Labour, emphasised that through such co-operation, Japanese enterprises would support the Mekong River Delta Region in solving environmental problems in the locale, contributing to bilateral business relations.

The event also offered an opportunity for enterprises from the two sides to exchange their experience as well as to learn more about partners’ demands to seek ways to co-operate in the future.
