Little boy gets help from readers

Cao Thi Hoai Phuong receives the donation

Cao Thi Hoai Phuong had two children. In 2019, their second child, Nguyen Ngoc Thinh, was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare disorders resembling some types of cancer, in which the body makes too many dendritic cells.

According to the doctors, Thinh has to go through chemotherapy to treat the tumours at HCM City Oncology Hospital before being operated on at Children's Hospital 1. After two years, the family ran out of money and incurred a huge debt as several medicines are not covered by health insurance. Phuong and her husband even thought about ending the treatment.

Phuong has quit her job to take care of the children. Her husband works as a house painter and motorbike taxi driver.

Phuong also has an unexpected pregnancy. She is already in the sixth month of pregnancy and will give birth in August, however, there is no money left.

On June 25, Dantri representative Ly Toan Thang transferred VND262,189,666 donated by readers to Cao Thi Hoai Phuong. The woman said thanks to everyone's help, she can take her son to doctors for check-ups more frequently. Thinh's condition has also improved but he still has to go through five more sessions.
