In his meeting with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, State President Nguyen Minh Triet urged the city to continue to keep its role as the driving force for the whole country’s socio-economic development in 2010.
In 2009, the city’s GDP increased by 8% against the same period of 2008, or 1.53 times higher than the national average figure. Per capita income stood at US $2,606.
On behalf of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Mr. Ho Duc Viet, Chairman of the CPV Central Organization Commission paid a greeting visit to the northern province of Thai Binh on Tuesday.
Mr. Viet acknowledged the locality’s significant efforts to maintain strong economic power. Its GDP grew 12.3% in 2009, the third best province in the Red River Delta in term of economic performance.
Also on the occasion, Mr. Viet visited some veterans’ families and Agent Orange victims.
On the same day, Chairman of the CPV Inspectorate Commission Nguyen Van Chi headed visited Bac Giang Province where he attributed the province’s outstanding socio-economic achievements in recent years to the high consensus of all local walks of life.
Deputy PM, Minister of Education and Training yesterday afternoon came to deliver his New Year greetings to former Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh, who had also been first female Minister of Education and Training.
On February 9, Chairman Huynh Dam of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) set off to a sanatorium for wounded soldiers in Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province.
Mr. Dam said that the Vietnamese Party and State always show honor and respect to great sacrifices of the wounded soldiers for the country’s independence and national construction.
The VFF Chairman also came to give his gifts to some of the province’s poor households.
Ministers of National Defense and Public Security Phung Quang Thanh and Le Hong Anh respectively also pay pre-Tet visits to military and public security units to encourage them to fulfill their tasks during the New Year.
