The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam has requested that the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum demolish five welcome gates which were built without permission.
The five welcome gates cost VND8 billion (USD344,827) on Ho Chi Minh Highway that runs through Kon Tum City.

One of the welcome gates in Kon Tum requested to be dismantled
Kon Tum City People’s Committee previously asked the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam for the licence to build the gates but were rejected. According to the agency, the gates would pose dangers for traffic participants if they did not receive regular maintenance, particularly in stormy weather. The agency cited the collapse of a welcome gate in Quang Binh Province’s Dong Hoi City as an example.
However, the city ignored the ruling and built the gates anyway.
