Japan’s Shinnyo-en Foundation and the Vietnam Fund for Learning Promotion have awarded 83 scholarships to disadvantaged students in Hung Yen and Hai Duong.

The Japanese organisation has co-operated with the Vietnam Fund for Learning Promotion for 14 years to provide scholarships to disadvantaged students, as well as build bridges and schools in many areas in Vietnam.

After three years sending their support online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, representatives from Shinnyo-en Foundation arrived in Vietnam to present the scholarships to students in Hung Yen and Hai Duong on December 7.

Speaking at the event, Shinnyo-en representative Shoji Harashima expressed happiness when returning to Vietnam to extend their support this time.

"Despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, I'm happy that we've still maintained our close co-operation to support disadvantaged people and difficult areas in Vietnam," he said.

Attending the meeting, former Editor-in-Chief of the DanTri/DTiNews Online Newspaper and vice chairman of the Vietnam Study Promotion Fund's management board, Pham Huy Hoan, sent his thanks to the Shinnyo-en Foundation for their valuable support to Vietnamese people over the past 14 years.

“Your support to give scholarships to poor students, as well as build schools and bridges in difficult areas are meaningful gifts, which will help local people have a better life," Hoan said.

Pham Thanh Ngan, who was among 27 students in Hung Yen Province to receive the scholarship of USD 132.70, said that it was truly valuable to her.

"My father has died and mother is constantly ill and so we've faced constant economic difficulties," Ngan said. "The scholarship will help cover some study fees for me this year. It will also help encourage me to study and live better so that I can contribute to society in the future. Thank you so much for your care and help."
