The Vietnam Airlines flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Hanoi had to land at Bucharest Henri Coanda Airport in Romania one and a half hours after taking off.

A Danish man, born in 1988, suddenly found it hard to breathe, had a seizure and then collapsed. Another passenger who was a doctor helped give first aid to the man. The flight crew decided to make an emergency landing in Romania at 10.40 pm.

The man recovered and was released from hospital. Vietnam Airlines said it would continue to monitor his health and support him.

At 12.40 am, the flight to Hanoi continued from Romania and arrived 3.20 hours later than scheduled. Vietnam Airlines helped rearrange flights for transit passengers in Hanoi.

"This was an unexpected incident and measures were taken to ensure the passenger's safety. We hope passengers understand," said the representative of Vietnam Airlines.

Last year, Vietnam Airlines took two emergency landing in India because of ill passengers. The flight crew and ground staff were praised for their work.
