"Forest protection is hard and dangerous work," the department explained. "Moreover, they only receive a salary for an eight-hour working day but have to be responsible for forest protection around the clock."
Talking to the Tien Phong Newspaper, the Director of Kon Plong District Forestry MTV Company, Le Van Thoan, said that many staff have left due to low pay and high work pressure.
“They have to work far from home and are often threatened by illegal loggers," Thoan said. "And their income is quite low."
Talking about the issue, the Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee, Le Ngoc Tuan, said that they have just proposed to the government to provide better salaries and allowances for forest protection workers.
"We're also planning to assign forest and forest land to forest rangers to protect and manage," the official said. "They can develop the forest better and improve their income."
