On July 29, Tran Van Tan, vice chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee agreed to apply social distancing in Hoi An.

Tan An and Thanh Ha wards in Hoi An have already applied social distancing from July 26. Checkpoints have been set up around Hoi An and the residents were asked to not leave the town.

According to the Quang Nam Department of Health, the province has reported 87 Covid-19 cases with two community cases, 22 cases that arrived in Hoi An from other provinces in Vietnam and 18 imported cases from July 18 until now. Hoi An reported 26 cases from July 25 to 29.

Nguyen Van Lanh, vice chairman of Hoi An People's Committee, said, "All measures will be tightened and regulations will be strictly followed. Punishments will be publicly announced."

He went on to say that some rules at the checkpoints will be adjusted to help local people and prevent the virus from spreading. Residents were asked to stay home and only go out if necessary. State agencies and firms must have suitable staff arrangements and work online as much as possible.

"Everyone only needs to stock up food for three to five days and no more because the government will ensure the food supplies for the town. Different measures will be used such as food ticketing or designated delivery points," Lanh said.
