The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City has submitted a proposal to the city People's Committee and the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs seeking approval to organise a memorial and requiem service for soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in service to the nation.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Le Thi Rieng Park in Hoa Hung Ward on June 14.
The park is currently the focus of an ongoing effort to locate and recover the remains of soldiers believed to be buried in mass graves dating from wartime.
Organisers have requested support from local authorities to ensure security and public order so that the event can be conducted in a solemn and respectful manner.
The memorial service comes as the Ho Chi Minh City High Command continues a major operation to search for and recover the remains of fallen soldiers within the park.
According to assessments by a research team involved in the project, the site may still contain three mass burial trenches holding the remains of approximately 900 individuals that have yet to be recovered.
The search and recovery effort is regarded as an important part of the city's broader initiative to identify and honour those who died during the war, while providing closure for families still seeking information about missing relatives.
