"Please save my husband. He hasn't woken up yet and we already spent VND360m (USD15,400) after five days at the hospital. I don't know where to find money anymore. How can we live on without him?" she said.
Ve said her husband, Nguyen Van Toan, had a stomachache three weeks ago and was treated at the district hospital for two weeks. However, his condition kept worsening and was transferred to E Hospital. The doctors carried out an emergency operation one hour after he was admitted.
In order to save him, the family still needs VND800m (USD34,400) more but they are financially exhausted.
Ve said they kept having unfortunate events one after another. In 2017, Toan fell from the scaffold and broke his leg, then in 2018, Ve accidentally broke her arm. In the following year, their son fell from the motorbike and broke his teeth.
Dr Le Tien Dung said Toan was diagnosed with acute aortic dissection type A, one of the most dangerous heart diseases. Moreover, there were complications in Toan's case because the carotid artery that feeds the brain and the renal artery was damaged. The surgery was long and complicated and the mortality chance was high.
After discussion, they had to apply a hybrid cardiac surgical procedure that combined a conventional surgical part with an interventional part. The operation lasted 11 hours. Toan still needs constant blood dialysis because of kidney failure.
"He had overcome the most dangerous part. He is still young and the pillar of his family. It's heartbreaking if his treatment is stopped now. We really hope that he will get help," Dung said.
