HCM City to further limit transportation amid Covid-19 outbreak

HCM City authorities have proposed to further limit transportation including suspending motorbike taxi services as well as trains and flights to and from HCM City.

On July 9, Chairman of HCM City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong imposed stricter social distancing measures. "Residents should only go out when it is really necessary like buying food or medicines," he said.

The city authorities assured residents that there are enough food supplies at supermarkets, markets and convenience stores so people shouldn't stockpile food in the house and avoid crowding at supermarkets.

Phong asked the Department of Transport to suspend transport except for taxis in cases where people want to go to hospital or involving the transportation of experts and workers at industrial zones. Motorbike taxi services were also suspended. The Department of Transport was asked to create favourable conditions for freight trucks.

The Department also proposed to the MInistry of Transport to suspend trains and flights to and from HCM City.

Ships were asked to leave HCM City. The crew must have certificates that they are negative for Covid-19 one day before departing.
