District 1's urban order team worked with the Veterinary Department to catch the dogs. Two dogs were caught on Nguyen Dinh Chieu and one was caught on Hoang Sa Street. Many people pushed their dogs into their homes when seeing the team.

Five dogs were transferred to a house in Da Kao Ward. According to the official, the dogs will be fed and taken care of. Owners have to pay VND500,000 (USD21.56) for the service along with the fine.

The owners have 72 hours to come to pay a fine or the dogs may be killed.

Doan Ngoc Hai, deputy head of District 1 People's Committee, said the owners would face a fine of VND600,000 (USD26) to VND800,000 if their dogs were not vaccinated, muzzled or collared and left wandering around the streets. Letting dogs foul the street will add another fine of VND100,000 to VND300,000.

On July 19, Hai had asked locality authorities to tighten management over stray dogs in the area.
