Hang Ngang, Hang Dau, and Hang Giay, among others in Hoan Kiem District, have long been known as commercial hotspots, popular for wholesale fashion, footwear, souvenirs and other goods, drawing crowds of shoppers, including traders from nearby provinces and foreign tourists.

However, recent visits by Dantri reporters on June 4 revealed a different scene: rows of shuttered storefronts on Hang Ngang Street.

Some shops barely cracked their doors open, cautiously serving only familiar customers.

Others covered their signage with tarpaulins.

Several stores openly displayed clearance sales or property to let or for sale, reflecting growing business uncertainty.

Hang Dau Street, once hailed as a footwear paradise, has also fallen silent, with many stores closing completely.

Nguyen Van Thinh, a resident, said many retailers suspended operations shortly after authorities announced intensified inspections targeting counterfeit goods, smuggled merchandise, and untraceable products.

"These stores used to operate all day, with vibrant trade," he said. "But now, mornings and afternoons are quiet. Only a few places remain open. Some shops have even switched to evening hours to reduce the risk."

A similar situation was observed on Hang Giay Street, once busy with confectionery, wine, and beer shops.

The entire street now appears deserted, with few customers passing by.
