Hanoians flock to Red River to cool down

As temperatures in Hanoi climb up to 40 degrees Celsius, many people have gone to the Red River for a swim to escape the heat.

As temperatures in Hanoi climb up to 40 degrees Celsius, many people have gone to the Red River for a swim to escape the heat.

Temperatures in northern and central region have been on the rise. Hanoi and Hoa Binh city temperatures on June 14 increased by one to two degrees to reach 39 Celsius, while the outdoor temperature at noon was over 40 Celsius. With humidity hovering at around 45% Hanoi would be hot from 7am to 8pm.

As a result, the people have been seeking ways to ease the heat. The low land under Vinh Tuy Bridge has become an attraction to a lot of swimmers. The sand is also clean, smooth and flat, making it a natural bathing place. The grass not far away is also an ideal place to sit and relax.

The area seems also safe for kids as many parents also bring their children there for a swim. Kids are wearing life jackets before plunging into the water.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, rain will fall on the northern region on June 15 evening and end the on-going hot spell. The heat in the central region will also reduce.
