Many people went out to celebrate the lifting of the lockdown at the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital in Hanoi on Monday morning.

The 18-day lockdown has just been removed at midnight on October 18 after the Covid-19 outbreak was brought under control.

Police removed the Covid-19 checkpoints and fences on some surrounding streets of Trang Thi, Quan Su, Phu Doan, and Hang Bong.

Many health workers, patients, their relatives and caretakers waited for the checkpoints and fences to be removed so that they could return home after being locked down for two weeks at the hospital.

Residents on Phu Doan Street waved flags to celebrate the moment when they could travel freely again. Local people said they were happy that all their daily activities could now return to normal.

Nguyen Thi Kim on Phu Doan Street said that she was very happy that the outbreak had been brought under control in her area.
"I couldn’t sleep last night," she said. "I waited until midnight when the lockdown removal was announced and I could go out to celebrate the moments with our neighbours."

After the lockdown was lifted, the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital re-opened to receive all patients from today.

The Health Ministry-run hospital was cordoned off on September 30 when a patient tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
As many as 99 Covid-19 cases involving inpatients, their relatives and caregivers hailing from Hanoi and other neighbouring localities were confirmed in the outbreak.
