Hanoi has reported 513 dengue fever patients since the beginning of the year, triple the same period last year.
According to the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control, the peak time for dengue fever typically falls between July and November. However, the city has experienced an uptick in dengue fever cases in recent weeks, with around 17-24 cases reported per week.
Dong Da District has been the hardest hit, recording 81 cases so far this year. It was followed by Ha Dong with 58 cases, Hoang Mai with 43, and Hai Ba Trung with 32.
The rise in dengue fever cases has been attributed to inadequate prevention and control measures in some areas. Additionally, high humidity and heavy rainfall have created favourable conditions for the disease to thrive.
The number of dengue fever patients in Hanoi is expected to continue rising. The municipal Department of Health has developed plans for disease prevention and control. Localities have been urged to prepare scenarios to respond to the disease effectively.
Last year, Hanoi witnessed 37,441 dengue fever patients, a more than twofold increase from 2022, including four fatalities.
