Hanoi Department of Information and Communications announced the creation of a pedestrian book street in Hoan Kiem District.
Tran Thi Mai Dung from the Department of Information and Communications said they decided to open the pedestrian book street on 19/12 Street because noise on the street wouldn’t bother people.
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the street must fit with the surrounding landscape. The book stalls will have a simple design with access for disabled, children and the elderly.
There will be other constructions such as a small square to hold exchanges or book launches and discussions and garden for children. Two electronic stands be set up on the street to help people understand more about the history of Hanoi and the book titles. Souvenirs and other shops will also be opened.

More trees will be planted to increase the green space for readers. The local authorities will build a memorial site for those who died during the Battle of Hanoi in 1946.
Books, book signings, exchanges or talk shows events will be held on 19/12 Street on the weekends or holidays. Many events to boost reading and honour famous figures who contributed to Vietnam's development will be held.
Phan Tu Lan, director of Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, said, the pedestrian book street plan had been mostly completed. They had gathered opinions from the city's Planning and Architecture Committee.
The concept has been nominated to Bui Xuan Phai-For Love of Hanoi Award 2016.
The street will go into operation on Vietnam Book Day on April 21, 2017.
