The projects comprise of Nhat Tan Bridge, Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport and a road to link Nhat Tan Bridge and Noi Bai International Airport.
These projects are very important to Hanoi’s transport planning, however, they are still moving at a slow pace, mostly due to stagnant site clearance.
Construction of Nhat Tan Bridge, with a total investment capital of VND7.53 trillion (USD376.5 million), began in March 2009 and was scheduled to be open to traffic in 2012. However, site clearance of Hanoi’s most modern bridge has not yet been finished due to lack of cooperation from those being removed.
Director of Nhat Tan Bridge Project under the Ministry of Transport, Nguyen Thanh Van, was quoted by Ha Noi Moi Newspaper that the sluggish site clearance may prolong the project for at least half a year. Work on the Terminal T2 project at Noi Bai International Airport worth JPY31 billion (USD370.19 million) was kicked off in October 2008 and slated to be finished in October 2010. However, the terminal has not become operational yet.
According to the Ministry of Construction, authorities of districts related in the terminal project said their localities can only transfer land for the project until April 2011 at the soonest.
Deputy PM Hai also called on the ministry and the committee to complete technical design documents and total estimations of the Nhat Tan-Noi Bai road project early and to approve compensations for the projects and take stricter measures to revoke land in Vinh Ngoc, Tien Duong and Van Noi communes of Dong Anh District for Nhat Tan Bridge.
For the Terminal T2 project, the Deputy PM requested the municipal committee to clear petroleum stores and waste-water treatment facilities to hand over the land for the investors before April 2011.
