Illegal fishing has become a problem on the Da River

The Waterway Traffic Police Team collaborated with the police in Vay Nua Commune to search for the illegal fishermen after receiving news about their activities in Hoa Binh Reservoir.

The men were Nguyen Van Ngoc, born in 1980, Nguyen Xuan Dat, born in 1984, Xa Van Tu, born in 1993, Bui Van Bung, born in 1984 and Xa Van Nhat, born in 1983. They all live in Hoa Binh Province. The police seized four boats, batteries and other equipment.

Bui Van Ky, chairman of Vay Nua Commune People's Committee said the equipment would be destroyed and the investigation was still ongoing. He went on to say that overfishing is a problem on the Da River. The culprits were from other communes and often used stun guns and electric shocks to fish.

"It's difficult to catch them because of the lack of personnel and vehicles. Hoa Binh Reservoir is vast and spreads across many districts," he said.

Sometimes, the authorities have to rent boats from the locals for irregular inspections.
