Fishermen in the central province of Quang Ngai have had a bumper catch after Tet Holiday, raising hopes for higher profits in the Year of Dog.
On the morning of February 22 or the 7th of the first month of the lunar year, Tinh Ky Port in Quang Ngai City’s Tinh Ky Commune were crowded with boats which returned after a night of fishing.

Each boat caught around six to eight tonnes of anchovy, bringing in more than VND10 million (USD454.5).
Nguyen Vinh, 36, who owns the fishing boat QNg 91146 TS, said that his catch was nearly 7.5 tonnes of fish. With the price of VND25,000-30,000 per kilo, he can earn USD454.5 profit.
Unlike other kinds of seafood, it often takes fishermen less than one day for each catch of anchovy. Meanwhile, the catching areas are just 20 to 30 nautical miles from the shore, which helps to save time and fuel costs for fishermen.
The fish after that is sold at traders who will transport them to other localities for sale.
Currently, Tinh Ky Commune has around 100 fishing boats with a total number of 1,000 labourers.
