A fisherman was attacked by a shark while diving near Bach Long Vy Island in the northern city of Hai Phong on June 7.
The Hai Phong Border Guard Steering Board announced on June 8 that they had successfully rescued a seriously injured fisherman who had been attacked by a shark.
According to a report from the board, the incident occurred some 12 nautical miles off Bach Long Vy Island at 10.45 am on June 7.
"The captain of fishing boat QN-0606TS, Vo Van Tanh, informed us that a crew member had been attacked," the report said. "We urgently sent a rescue team of eight members and two medics to the site. When we arrived at 12.35 pm the same day, the victim Vo Van (32) had some serious injuries to his leg. He was facing blood loss.
The man was immediately given first aid before being taken to Bach Long Vy Healthcare Centre for further treatment.
Director of Bach Long Vy Healthcare Centre, Doctor Pham Van Hai, said that they received patient Vo Van in a serious condition due to severe injuries and blood loss.
"We gave him stitches and transfusions and then transferred him to a hospital inland for better treatment," he said.
