The isolation on Hai Duong was lifted from March 3.

On Wednesday morning, people in Nhan Hue Commune in Chi Linh City flocked to fields to harvest their vegetables and start a new crop.

Despite being assisted by charity groups for consumption, a huge amount of their vegetables such as cabbages, tomatoes and cauliflowers had been spoilt following the long lockdown.

Le Thi My in Chi Linh City said that local farmers faced great losses due to the sharp fall in farm produce prices by 50% compared to before the Tet Holiday.

Despite not being spoilt, some fields of carrots and other kinds of spicy vegetables have seen the remarkable price fall before the Covid-19 outbreak.

Since Tet, roughly 50% of vegetables in Chi Linh City have been sold. Meanwhile, the majority of the remainder has been sold with the support from concerned agencies.

Nguyen Thi Tuyet, 51, said that her family failed to sell 108 square metres of cabbages and kohlrabi because of the pandemic. The family is waiting to harvest carrots but the prices are very low.

At present, some 600,000 chickens; 3,700 tonnes of carrots; 350 tonnes of cabbages and 140 tonnes of onions have not yet been sold.
