Thi Luyen from Dak R’Lap District’s Nghia Thang Commune has been living with the disease since she was four months old. Due to the time-consuming nature of her treatment, the girl is still in Grade 4.

Luyen’s mother Thi Nam said that being diagnosed with the disease when Luyen was just four months old, but she was taken back home for self-treatment because of the family’s financial difficulties.
Bui Thi Nam has brought her daughter to a medical centre for treatment nearly every month for a decade. Only when her condition worsened, would she be taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, Luyen’s father Dieu B’roi has been facing mental problems since late last year. Since then, Thi Nam has had to stay at home to take care of her husband and daughter. The family now mainly depends on her eldest child’s modest income.
Thi Luyen’s condition has become more serious but her parents are totally powerless to save her.
Local authorities have called for donations for the girl’s family.
