Several English centres in Ho Chi Minh City leave their victims scratching their heads after they suddenly shut down without paying tuition refunds to students and salary arrears to teachers.

K.N., a mother of a student at an Anpha English Centre branch in Binh Thanh District, recently got shocked to see its door tightly shut as she took her child back there after a national holiday.
“I already paid VND2.4 million (USD115) for my child’s course which should last until June,” she said, complaining she could not contact any staff of the branch at the numbers printed on the tuition receipt. “I have no clue what to do next.”
Another parent, M.T., told Tuoi Tre that the District 5 branch of the centre had been unexpectedly shut down on the same day her son’s course was supposed to begin.
“Last month I paid them VND1.08 million (USD52) for the course, but the branch never ran it afterwards,” she protested.
The result is that over 40 staff members and teachers of the centre got angry and last week distrained its property, including computers, air-conditioners, cassette players, desks, and books, in order to obtain their due salaries.
“The centre still owes each of them between VND3 million (USD144) and VND20 million (USD960),” an employee revealed.
Earlier, three other language centres in District 5 and Go Vap and Tan Phu Districts closed down for unknown reasons. They never paid any refund or salary to their students, staff, and teachers.
