DTiNews delivers relief to flood victims

DTiNews has sent supplies to flood victims in the central province of Quang Binh.

Dan Tri/DTiNews has sent supplies to flood victims in the central province of Quang Binh on October 7.

Children in Tan Hoa were delighted to recieve milk packs after a hungry week.

Instant noodles and milk were bought using funds from the Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund of DTiNews/Dan Tri arrived to the delight of flood-isolated residents in Tan Hoa Commune.

Dan Tri reporters transferred 100 boxes of instant noodles and 30 boxes of fresh milk, valued at over VND 13 million. to the People’s Committee of Minh Hoa District and followed them to deliver the food to local people from Tan Hoa Commune.

After five days fighting with the flood, many have been exhausted due to lack of food, coldness and such illnesses as diarrhea, sore eyes, etc.

At present, some 2,000 residents in Tan Hoa Commune are still living in caves or tents set up along the mountain slopes. Although the water lever is decreasing, the whole commune is still like a lake with hundreds of sinking roofs.

A large quantity of relief supplies (mainly instant noodles) have been gathered at the district’s centre however, they cannot reach the hungry people immediately because they lack a transport vehicle.

There are only two canoes for transportation which are being operated at the highest capacity possible to deliver food and necessities to isolated people and transfer those who are ill to the hospital. Therefore, the situation is still dangerous.

As of October 7, 60 deaths and 22 missing persons had been reported. Quang Binh Province alone was reported to have 39 deaths and 18 missing. More than 100 communes in 6 districts are still flooded. The total damage has not been reported but it is estimated at some VND 1,000 billion (USD50 million), equivalent to the 2009’s budget of this poor province.

Receiving milk from a reporter, hundreds of hungry children were filled with joy after many days living by raw instant noodle and meat off dead cows.

Vice Chairman of Minh Hoa District, Dinh Hong Ho, pledged to continue delivering relief supplies from DTiNews/Dan Tri and other organisations to local people as soon as possible.

Supplies will start heading towards the many people in Quang Binh Province who are still in desperate need of necessities so that they can overcome this disaster. Donations will continue to be accepted and delivered to victims.
