The full name of a Vietnamese citizen should not have more than 25 alphabets, or have numbers or symbols, according to a draft amendment to the Civil Code.

Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong presented a set of draft amendments at a Standing Committee meeting of the National Assembly today. The draft amendments are based on feedback from more than 7.5 million people.
One of the suggestions is that while citizens have the right to choose their full names, the State should have specific rules to guide them. Many full names do not suit the country's culture.
Apart from this, the amendment also calls for adding a provision to the Law on Vietnamese Nationality to bring a regulation that anyone who applies for Vietnamese citizenship must have a Vietnamese name.
Calling this suggestion appropriate, Cuong said that it has been included in the draft amendments.
However, according to the NA Committee on Legal Affairs, this amendment should be considered more carefully and with more feedback.
Since January, the Ministry of Justice has been inviting suggestions and feedback on the draft amendments to the Civil Code on its website http://www.moj.gov.vn.
The current draft comprises 672 articles, shorter than the 2009 Civil Code, which has 777 articles.
