Quang Ngai shaken by two minor earthquakes

Two small earthquakes struck Quang Ngai Province on Friday morning, with residents near the epicentre reporting slight tremors but no damage or casualties.

The Institute of Earth Sciences under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology said it recorded two earthquakes in Mang But Commune, Quang Ngai Province, on May 1.

The first quake occurred at 5.18 am with a magnitude of 3.0. About 15 minutes later, a second tremor measuring 3.1 struck the same area.

Local authorities said residents felt light shaking but no injuries or property damage were reported. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and have advised residents to remain cautious in case of further activity.

Since 2021, the Kon Plong area, formerly part of Kon Tum and now under Quang Ngai, has experienced hundreds of induced earthquakes. The strongest recorded so far reached a magnitude of 5.0 at midday on July 28, 2024.
