General Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo member and National Defense Minister, December 21 visited and congratulated legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22).

On behalf of the whole army, the minister wished General Giap good health and longevity.
He expressed thanks for General Giap’s great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the country and the national defense.
Minister Thanh said General Vo Nguyen Giap is a great example and pride of the armed forces and the Vietnam People’s Army.
General Giap thanked the whole army for their concerns, and the Minister for his best wishes.
He hoped the nation’s soldiers and officers would continue to accomplish well all tasks assigned by the Party, the country and the people.
Also on this occasion, 101 photos capturing certain moments in the life of General Vo Nguyen Giap. The photographer that took these photographs is Tran Tuan.
The photos are being showcased at an exhibition, which opened in Hanoi on December 21.
The photos, taken since the 1980s, captured General’s Giap visiting his former revolutionary base Tan Trao in Tuyen Quang province, and the former battle field Dien Bien Phu in Dien Bien Province.
They also included the General’s meetings with heroic Vietnamese mothers, scientists and historians, the former US Defense Minister McNamara and other foreign friends.
Photographer Tran Tuan expects that the exhibition will be a present to the General for his 101st birthday (August 25, 2011).
