The donations came after an article about Nguyen Thi Hang’s family in the city's outlying district of Ba Vi’s Van Thang Commune was published on Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper.
Of the sum, VND952.52 million was donated through Dantri/DTiNews, VND197.47 million through the Vietnam Study Promotion Fund and the remainder directly sent to the family.

The family’s situation became public knowledge after their daughter Hang, 12, sent a letter to seek help to Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper.
Hang’s father Nguyen Manh Hung, 52, has been suffering from a brain haemorrhage for many years. He is bedridden and tortured by pain. The family is too poor to cover the treatment, so Hung mostly takes pain relievers.
Meanwhile, Hang’s mother Nguyen Thi Van is blind in one eye after an accident. Since then, her health has worsened.
Hang is likely to leave school to stay at home to look after their parents.
