Phan Van My and Nguyen Thi Giang have three children together. The youngest is only 16 months old and the oldest is 8 years old. The family lives in a dilapidated 30-square-metre house that couldn't protect them from the cold winds. Giang had C-section three times so her health is very weak and depends on My's irregular income as an acacia wood logger.

On March 27, My was on the way home when he had a traffic accident and broke his skull. His family had to borrow money for the treatment and fell deeper into poverty.

On May 9, Dantri representatives and the local authorities visited and transferred VND331,434,000 (USD14,300) to the family of Phan Van My. Dantri also transferred VND102,720,000 (USD4,500) to My's family on May 2 during the first wave of donations.

Nguyen Thi Giang said her husband had gone through three operations because of an infection. My has gained consciousness but half of his body is still paralysed.

"Without your help, we wouldn’t have been able to overcome this hard time. Many people encouraged and helped us when we were desperate. I want to say thank you to everyone that helped us," Giang said.

Phan Hong Yen, vice chairwomen of Vu Quang District People's Committee, said, "We often read Dantri and appreciate the bridge created to connect needy people with kind readers. I hope more help will be given to disadvantaged people."
