Dangerous path terrifies travelers in central province

Kien Slope in the central province of Quang Nam is a scary way to pass through, terrifying travelers in the rainy season.

Visiting the province during the rain season, muddy roads can be seen everywhere.

Kien Slope, which connects Hoa Vang Disrict in Da Nang City and Dong Giang District in Quang Nam, was the site of a huge degree of destruction caused by a flood in October.

The 50-metre road is now still covered with mud which slid down from a near by mountain. The mud reaches levels of up to nearly 1 metre.

Motorbikes and trucks were following one anther to wade across this swamped road. The drivers all had to ask local people to help push their vehicles through.

A team of road-workers has been sent to mend this road for more than a month but the situation has not been improved much as a huge bulk of soil and stones from mountains keeps running down on the road. They can only bulldoze to open a temporary way for vehicles.

According to local people, this situation occurs every year in the flood season. “Kien Slope was also blocked for two months last year due to the same reason but not much has been done to improve the road,” he said.

Besides Kien Slope, many other roads in Dong Giang mountainous District which run to such villages as Arung 1, Arung 2, Za Ha, La Dang, etc. also become a danger for local people whenever the rainy season comes.

“We can only travel on foot in this season,” said a local in Ha Za Village. “I broke my arms last year while riding a motorbike on a muddy road so now I don’t dare to travel by bike on these roads.”

If heavy rain continues in this region, Dong Giang District will be isolated.
