Daily Covid-19 infections soar to nearly 56,000 on Tuesday

Vietnam has confirmed a record number of 55,879 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 55,871 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (6,860), Bac Ninh (2,842), Bac Giang (2,500), Hai Duong (2,485), and Quang Ninh (2,087). There were eight imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 9,010 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 39,728 infections found in the community.

As of Tuesday evening, 2,882,983 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (522,142), Binh Duong (294,271), Hanoi (210,681), Dong Nai (100,574), and Tay Ninh (89,228). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,890,252. The country now stands 32nd among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 22, an additional 10,412 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,305,081.

On Tuesday evening, a further 77 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,682. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (17), Thanh Hoa (8), and Nghe An (6).

Vietnam on February 21 administered 327,532 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 191.99 million.
